Dayton, Ohio—On October 6, 2016, Mr. Cho Tak Wong, CGCC board member and Chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group, won the 46th Phoenix Award “Glass Person of the Year 2016” in Dayton, Ohio. CGCC Chairman, President of Bank of China USA Xu Chen; and CGCC Vice Chairman, Chairman of ICBC US Management Committee Xiao Yuqiang attended the award ceremony and congratulated Mr. Cho Tak Wong.

The Phoenix Award is regarded as the “Oscar” in the glass industry. Every year, the Phoenix Award Committee selects a person now living, who has been active in and has made significant and major contributions to the glass industry, to be the awardee. Mr. Cho Tak Wong is the first person from mainland China to receive this award.

In 1987, Mr. Cho Tak Wong started Yaohua Automotive Glass Company (former Fuyao Group). Today, the Fuyao Glass Industry Group has become China’s No.1 and the world’s No. 2 auto-glass provider, with subsidiaries in USA, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Russia, Germany and Hong Kong. Fuyao’s customers include such global automotive producers as Audi, Bentley, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, Volkswagen and Volvo.

In 2009, Mr. Cho became the first Chinese to be named “Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year”.

Alongside his business achievements, Mr. Cho is one of China’s foremost philanthropists. Until now, Mr. Cho has donated around 6 billion RMB on disaster-relief, poverty-relief, bursary and others. In May 2011, Mr. Cho gave out 0.3 billion of Fuyao shares which equaled a market value of about 3.55 billion RMB to set up Heren Charity Foundation, which became the foundation with largest asset scale in China so far.

“I have always believed that an entrepreneur carries three responsibilities” he said, “mightiness of the nation, advancement of the society and abundance of the people. By achieving these three items, an entrepreneur can fully deserve his title.”
